Yorktown struck quickly on Monday, scoring six runs in the first inning to take control of what proved an 18-2 win at Edison.
The winning pitcher was Annie Blaine, who pitched a six-inning complete game, giving up four hits and one earned run while striking out eight batters.
Yorktown, meanwhile, had a total of 14 hits, led by Stephanie Severn and Katie Roberts with three hits each. They also both scored twice, with one RBI each.
Blaine and Kimmi Oldham each had two hits and a bases-loaded walk, for three RBI.
Kristen Soroka, Emily Panyard, Laurie Pinkerton, and Kelly John had the other Yorktown hits. Soroka and Pinkerton also finished with three RBI a piece.
The defensive play of the game was a double-play in the fourth inning. With an Edison runner on second, the batter grounded to Soroka at shortstop. Kristen checked the runner, then threw to Panyard at first to get the batter for the first out.
When Soroka released the ball, the runner at second broke for third. Panyard’s return throw to Lindsay Irving at third hit the glove in perfect position to make the tag, as the runner slid into the glove for the second out.
