Hon. Mention — Rice Gets Nice
Trailing by two scores in the third quarter at Yorktown, Wakefield senior Thomas Rice scooped this blown-up option and raced 75 yards for a touchdown.
Hon. Mention — Mo Athleticism
Stuart sophomore Mo Ibrahim lays out for a spectacular 19-yard reception just before halftime at Hayfield.
Hon. Mention — What You Talkin’ Bout Willis
Edison senior Marvin Willis returns a first-quarter punt 47 yards for a touchdown against Washington-Lee to opening the scoring.
Hon. Mention — Rositano FG Block
Stone Bridge junior athlete Spenser Rositano blocks the would-be game-tying 41-yard field goal by Langley to preserve the 17-14, Bulldog road win. Rositano also had the game-clinching blocked field goal against Westfield in Week 1.
Hon. Mention — Reaves Weaves for TD
Dominion junior athlete Deandre Reaves rushed 32 times for 203 yards and four scores against South Lakes Friday. No run was more impressive than this field-spanning, 30-yard touchdown run on the first play of the fourth quarter.
No. 10 — Pick Sixes
Hulk Hogan
W.T. Woodson senior linebacker Josh Hogan gets his second 37-yard interception return of the season (Week 4, Chantilly), continuing his defense disruption across the Patriot District.
Davey Double
West Springfield senior linebacker Peyton Davey intercepts this third-quarter pass and heads 28 yards for the touchdown. The Spartans fell at the Cavaliers, though, 44-31.
Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood
Stone Bridge junior defensive back Dexter Rogers stepped in front of this Langley out-route, picked off the pass, dropped the would-be-tackling receiver and headed 29 yards for a touchdown.
No. 9 — Smith One-Handed TD
Edison’s passing game — led by senior quarterback Levi Barber — experienced vast improvement against Washington-Lee from its home loss to Falls Church last week. This 22-yard one-handed touchdown catch by junior receiver Greg Smith helped that cause.
No. 8 — Scoville Game-Winner
On the night former all-state recevier Eddie Royal‘s jersey was retired, Bulldog senior Aaron Scoville caught 13 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. This 7-yard, punishing score with 8:53 remaining proved the game-winning score as Westfield beat Chantilly, 17-14, Friday.
No. 7 — Kennedy Punt Block TD
Centreville senior Terrance Kennedy‘s blocked punt and 25-yard return touchdown lifted the Wildcats to their first Concorde District win since late October 2007. Centreville beat defending Division 6 regional champion Oakton, 21-7.
No. 6 — Balancing Acts
Sanford Turns 12 into 41
Against AA Dominion, South Lakes sophomore Stepfon Sanford rolled up 104 yards on eight carries. This 41-yard run, aided by the fallen body of a Titan defender, was his longest. Still, the Seahawks lost, 46-20, in Sterling.
Ferrufino TD
Falls Church senior receiver Amilcar Ferrufino should have been tackled after nine yards, but bounced off a Mount Vernon defender — instead of the ground — and went 19 yards for an amazing touchdown.
No. 5 — McCallum Erupts
Hayfield senior quarterback Anton McCallum carried 13 times for 205 yards and five touchdowns in a 49-21, home win over Stuart. He had 117 yards and three scores on four first-quarter rushes.
No. 4 — Citizen Cope
West Potomac senior receiver Daryl Copeland caught seven passes Saturday at T.C. Williams for 245 yards and four touchdowns. The Wolverines, though, fell to the Titans, 38-37.
No. 3 — HUGhEs Night in Falls Church
Falls Church senior running back Marcus Hughes moved into sole possession of first place among Northern Region rushers — comfortably. His first carry went for minus-1 yard. His next 32 carries went for a little more. Hughes posted a 33-carry, 300-yard, 3-touchdown night against Mount Vernon Friday. The Jaguars beat the Majors, 42-32. Hughes also had two scores called back, one of 67 yards.
No. 2 — Nebrich Dance and Dash
Lake Braddock is continuing to improve every week. So is its junior quarterback. Michael Nebrich accounted for six touchdowns — three passing, three rushing — including this should-be-sack at Annandale that he turned into a 57-yard touchdown and one of his highlights of the year. The Bruins beat the Atoms, 48-3.
No. 1 — Money in the Banks
Yorktown scored 27 fourth-quarter points to pull away from Wakefield Friday, forcing three turnovers in the period. This 16-yard interception-return touchdown by senior linebacker Erik Cardillo — with the direct assist from senior linebacker Charles Banks — punctuated the win.
